SF International Welcomes the Sunshine and Another Poetry Contest for National Poetry Month
By Hei Hei, ACE Poetry Contest Mascot, San Francisco International High School
Hey hey this is Hei Hei!
That’s right, my name sounds like a greeting! It’s kind of perfect, because that’s exactly what I love doing most. Everyday I greet students as they come into the Wellness Center and get lots of cuddles in return. I’m new this year, but the students and staff of San Francisco International High School (SFIHS) have welcomed me into their Husky family – even though I’m a LOT smaller than a Husky!
It’s April, the sun is finally shining and it’s time to write some poetry! This year I’m taking over for Chupe and Cronos to host the annual ACE Poetry Contest competition at SFIHS. I’m not quite sure what I have to do, but Riley seems like he has been around the block (at least 7 times!) and is helping me learn some new tricks when it comes to the contest.
Although I’m new to the poetry competition, I’m not new to poetry! My favorite kind is Haiku – or as I like to say, Heiku. Here is a Heiku to start us off.
Hei Hei means ‘black black’
But my goal is to bring light.
Wag wag cuddle lick!
Happy writing everyone!
I, too, love haiku.
My goal is one everyday.
They’re easy to write!
Hey Hei Hei!
Hope you’re enjoying your day!
Here’s a little rhyme
To help you pass the time
My name is Riley
I’m usually calm and smiley
My best friend is named Lucy
Whose just the cutest beauty
I love walks in the park
And I don’t usually bark
I hope to meet you one day
Welcome to the team Hei Hei!
