No Senioritis Here! The KALW Audio Academy Senior Class Rocks Its Last Month by Supporting the KALW Public Radio Party
By Holly Kernan, News Director, KALW Public Radio, 91.7 FM
We are in our final stretch at the KALW Audio Academy. The fellows are all in heavy production.
The rest of us are busy sorting through the new applicants for next year, and what an amazing group of people! We received nearly 60 applications for the next class. We also have chosen three Philip and Sala Burton High School interns for the summer program. Watch for their stories this summer!
The Audio Academy class will graduate in June with lots of experience creating excellent stories for radio. We are creating not just new stories, but new voices and storytellers for radio. As Glynn Washington, host of NPR’s Snap Judgement, said recently on Crosscurrents, “This is so rare that any radio station does this.”
It’s also been an amazing start to our spring membership drive. Our Crosscurrents show on Tuesday, May 6, was produced entirely by student David Boyer – including this story all about one intersection in San Francisco’s Bayview and how it’s changing:
The Intersection: Four Stories from One Bayview Corner
Then, on Wednesday, May 7, we aired a story from Audio Academy fellow Kristina Loring. What terrific and moving work they are creating:

The KALW Public Radio Party is a celebration of everything that’s great about public radio and the unique way we do it here at KALW. Contribute on line or call 800-525-9917 and join us for the real Public Radio Party on June 11.
Keep listening, telling stories and party down!
